What we fund within HGV Finance

Specifics matter. Here's what's in scope.

Tractor units

DAF XF/XG, Mercedes Actros, Scania R/S, Volvo FH, MAN TGX, Iveco S-Way. Euro 6 stock and Euro 7 stock as it lands.

Rigids

18-tonne, 26-tonne, 32-tonne, 8-wheelers. Curtain-siders, box bodies, tippers, refuse, hookloader, Hiab cranes.

Refrigerated HGVs

Multi-temp bodies, single-temp reefer, blast freezer trucks. Carrier, Thermo King, Hubbard refrigeration units.

Trailers

Curtain-side, double-deck, refrigerated, low-loader, walking-floor, tipper, tanker. Funded standalone or with the unit.

Used HGV stock

Up to 8 years old at end of term. Dealer, auction or private sale — engineer's report often substitutes for warranty.

Conversions

Tail-lifts, sliding doors, racking, refrigeration retrofit, telematics, fuel tanks. Built into the agreement.

Why finance, not cash

Three reasons hgvs buyers finance.

Match the term to the vehicle's life

A new tractor unit will earn for 7+ years. Spread the cost over 5–6 years and the truck pays for itself out of the contract revenue it generates.

Preserve cash for drivers and fuel

Driver wages and fuel are 60%+ of operating cost. Locking £150k of cash into a vehicle when it could fund six months of payroll rarely makes sense.

Potential capital allowances

Qualifying expenditure may be eligible for capital allowances depending on the business, asset, agreement and current rules. Confirm the treatment with an accountant or tax adviser.

How it runs

From quote to hgvs on the road.

01

Tell us the spec

Make, model, age, dealer and on-road price help us understand the proposed asset. We explain any credit-search process before an application proceeds.

02

We assess suitable truck-funder routes

We assess whether selected provider routes may be relevant to the asset and customer circumstances. Any available terms are set out in a formal proposal.

03

Documents and pay-out

Documentation, payment timing and delivery depend on the supplier, provider requirements and final agreement.

Recommended structure

Hire Purchase usually wins for hgvs.

Hire purchase may be considered where an ownership-transfer structure suits the asset and business plan. Capital-allowance treatment depends on current rules and circumstances.

FAQs

HGV Finance — what people ask.

What's the maximum age of HGV you'll finance?

Most lenders fund vehicles up to 6 years old at the start of a 5-year term — so the truck can be 11 years old at the end. A handful of specialists go to 8 years at the start on premium brands with full service history.

Can I finance a truck I'm buying at auction?

Yes — we work with three lenders comfortable with auction stock (BCA, Manheim, Aston Barclay, dealer-only auctions). You'll typically need an inspection report. We can issue a pre-approved facility before you bid so you know your ceiling.

Do I need an O-licence to apply?

For vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, yes. The lender will want sight of your operator's licence, transport manager qualification and base evidence. If you're applying for one in parallel, we have lenders who'll proceed on the application reference.

What if the truck has a long build slot?

Standard for new tractor units. We'll issue a credit-approved facility that holds for 6 months, pay any factory deposit needed to lock in the build, and pay the balance on first registration. Rentals only start when the vehicle hits the road.
